I went along to see Watchmen with last night's posse, and was pleasantly surprised.

I thought the increased level of graphic violence was rather unnecessary, but otherwise it was remarkably faithful to the comic. Most of the significant changes to the plot actually made rather more sense than the original too.

It seemed to work well as a film, with rather more substance than most recent superhero adaptations.

It's biggest weakness is probably that it is a bit too faithful to the comic: given the amount of stuff in it it may be hard to follow if you haven't read the comic, and if you have it hasn't added a great deal.
